Welcome to 2021

We had some successes in the 2020 elections: all eight state-wide judicial positions, the Lieutenant Governor and other Council of State positions, re-electing Ted Budd in the 13th District.

We had some spectacular failures, regardless of how those failures were caused.

Some of us thought 2021 would be a welcome change after the year 2020. It is not starting out that way, so it is up to us to change it.

We need your thoughts

The Chatham County Republican Party needs your thoughts and inputs for moving forward. Some of you have responded, but many have not. Please take five minutes and answer a few questions at https://forms.gle/6o1VUNe8Q6qq5ehh7. This is important.

Political Conventions

Political parties depend on volunteers. At the county level, everyone is a volunteer. You can participate in advancing conservative principles by participating in the county, district and state conventions.

Chatham County will hold the Republican Party convention in March. To be a voting participant, you must be a registered Republican no later than January 31, 2021. If you are not registered Republican, instructions to change your registration are at https://www.ncsbe.gov/registering/updating-registration.

Consider running for office

These are some of the open positions for the 2022 elections

  • three Chatham County Council positions (a majority of the council)
  • three Chatham school board positions (a majority of the school board)
  • State Representative
  • State Senator

The elections in 2022 require one to register as a candidate in December 2021 - just 11 months away. Contact me if interested.

Don't like how our government is being run? Don't like how your tax dollars are spent? Do something about it; run for office, or encourage a friend.

Historical quotes

Normally I close these newsletters with one quote. This month there are several that seem appropriate.

Please consider what you can do to help out:

Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.
― Edmund Burke

We must be watchful of 'emergencies' declared by governments:

‘Emergencies’ have always been the pretext on which the safeguards of individual liberty have been eroded.
― Friedrich Hayek

And finally, let's all play by the same rules:

If you have always believed that everyone should play by the same rules and be judged by the same standards, that would have gotten you labeled a radical 60 years ago, a liberal 30 years ago and a racist today.
― Thomas Sowell
