You can code! From zero to hero in 120 minutes!

Preparation needed BEFORE the workshop:

  • Install a free Python integrated development environment (IDE) called Thonny on your computer. It is available at https://thonny.org/.
  • Install Python "packages" (helper tools) for reading Excel files, generating QR codes, performing AI language translations etc.
  • Create a folder on your computer called "codeweek". This is for storing the program you are going to write. Inside "codeweek" create another folder called "qrcode". This is for storing the results your program will create.
  • If you do not have Microsoft Excel on your computer, you can use "Calc" in the free LibreOffice instead. Checkout https://www.libreoffice.org/.

Here are some screen shots showing how to install Thonny and the required Python packages (namely qrcode, pillow, openpyxl, transformers, torch, sentencepiece, sacremoses) step by step. If you have questions or need help please write to me at chris.codeweek@proton.me.

The following screen shots were taken on a Windows 11 computer. Steps on other platforms should be reasonably similar. Any questions please write!
