The US is losing the war it chose in Iran. No surprise: the US hasn't won a war for more than 80 years. But this time the US is run by a senile narcissist: he can't ever lose; can't ever be shown up as the laughing stock he is.
So he uses one or more nuclear weapons to 'win' the war.
