A new world order.

There is no reason to believe our planet is special. The laws at work in the universe, as much as we know, do not vary from place to place.

I believe that the probabilities that led life to evolve in this planet are the same everywhere in the universe. The same probabilities that avoided life from evolving in other near known planets.

It may be safe to say that as there are places in this universe in which life has not evolved at all, there may also be places in the universe where life has evolved before is has in our planet.

A consequence of this hypothesis is that there may be other species in our universe that are far more advanced technologically than ours. The same hypothesis also predicts that there may be less advanced species too.

As technology demands resources, the more advanced species may also need them. All kinds of resources may be needed, including metals, water, food, silicon, work power, man power, whatever.

A civilization fifty years ahead of us may know a lot more about medicine, weapons and mind manipulation techniques. What we can do today with propaganda and hypnosis may be a child's play for them.

Now imagine that you are one of those hypothetical humanoids and that you come near our planet for the first time. What a surprise that would be. In the middle of nowhere you find an island full of life resources, man power and water.

The impact would be even greater if you came from a planet with only ice, or only dry lands, for whatever reason.

After some time in orbit you would probably try to find a spot to land and experience life here. That would be a big risk, but you have traveled so far and for so long that you would be willing to take that risk.

It would take a lot of time to understand our language, how we organize ourselves, our war capabilities and our behavior. If you had that time, or if you had a way of leading others here, soon a base of yours would be established somewhere.

With more life comes more interests. Soon your team would find reasons to justify doing this or that and our governments would be contacted. The exchange of mirrors and hair combs for friendship could come first. Then some technology could be exchanged for some grains or gold. Soon they would understand the limits of our power to produce fire and would start to work beyond those limits.

Technology and moral advancement do not necessarily go together and we could find ourselves in a position where people here would be taken away for various reasons. Study, food, knowledge exchange, who knows?

Strange events would take place. Rare but important events. By studying them we would understand that visits to our planet could have been happening for a much longer time than we wanted to know.

By studying our folklore or the history of our native people, we would even be led to believe that some of us could have our roots elsewhere. Am I speculating too much?

But, returning to politics, a more advanced race could easily exchange mirrors and hair combs with our politicians, gaining political power to make some changes here. This is a consequence of our first hypothesis.

Now, imagine someone wants to take over Earth but has not enough firepower for that, but they may have some kind of electronic mental influence techniques. Would that influence be enough to transform our planet in a big farm for them?
