Enemy Embrace

I realize that AI is not new. It has been around for quite some time. Well before The Matrix sucked us into the battle between machines and Zion, HAL and Dave were sorting out their roles.

But in the past few years, adoption and development of the technology seems to have hyper launched.

Initially, I was repulsed by the manner in which it was being abused to produce graphics and written content. Or counterfeit anything creative that is usually born out of passion, talent, laborious iteration, and a ton of hard work.

AI knows nothing of blood, sweat, and tears.

Two aspects of human creativity that I have always had a deep appreciation for are expressed via thoughtful design and well-crafted wordsmiths. (Do not confuse my appreciation with taste.) I often admired from the gallery.

But AI generation has become a race to the bottom in this regard. It’s the open market bazaar of mass-produced, cheap knockoffs for the passing tourists. Novelties of no value to bring home and place on a shelf.

However, I’m starting to find that the creative humans are now flipping the script a little.

The movement is not, thankfully, speeding towards mankind’s replacement by our digital overlords. But rather, a steady effort is growing quickly, to make AI subservient to our culture of low effort instant gratification. And monetize it, of course.

It’s not fully altruistic. But still, a step in the right direction methinks.

Question is, am I ready to embrace this path?
