Ok, so let me first eliminate from this post, the argument that not all discoveries are positive. I get that. I’m not focused on that.
But even ‘bad’ discoveries can lead to ‘good’ outcomes. So, can we allow the possibility that in these cases, the bad discovery - is actually good?
Something to chew on while reading the rest of this thought. < /sidebar >
What I’m talking about, are all the small, serendipitous moments that bring much joy. Even if it elicits the most punctuated of “Eureka!” outbursts.
A squeal of delight confirms the value of a discovery. And so does the irresistible urge to share it with someone.
It’s a gift.
Something likely unexpected.
And something often beneficial.
Discovery Mindset
The keys to experiencing these kinds of discovery are awareness and cultivation.
Not only do I have to realize when I chance upon something (a new song, book, article, picture, place, skill, friend, etc…), but I have to be looking for it.
That is, be constantly learning.
Or at least, always be in the spirit of learning.
Because ultimately, the essence of discovery is learning.
