The Concept Of Soulmates: From An Islamic Lens

“O humankind have consciousness of your Loving-Sustainer,[i]who created you from a single nafs(soul) and created from it her zawj (mate) and dispersed from both many men and women. And have God Consciousness, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Certainly, God is ever, over you, an Observer.”

  • Quran 4:1 Surah An-Nisa

How beautiful is it that Allah created us in pairs, out of one soul. A soul that was once split apart soon to find its way back to each other.

The concept of soulmates is rooted in the idea that souls were created in the realm before this world, that certain souls are destined to find one another in this life. This connection that was once before explains why we feel an instant attraction or deep bonds with certain individuals.

The Prophet Muhammad peace and blessings be upon him spoke about this in Hadiths "Souls are like conscripted soldiers; those whom they recognize, they get along with, and those whom they do not recognize, they will not get along with." (Saheeh al-Bukhaari, Kitaab Ahaadeeth al-Anbiyaa, Baab al-Arwaah junood mujannadah).

How beautiful is the work of God.

Alhamdulilah (Thanks be to God)
