The Terrorist, He’s Watching (31 lines) (1st choice)
The bomb in the bar will explode at thirteen twenty.
Now it’s just thirteen sixteen.
There’s still time for some to go in,
and some to come out.
The terrorist has already crossed the street.
The distance keeps him out of danger,
and what a view -just like the movies:
A woman in a yellow jacket, she’s going in.
A man in dark glasses, he’s coming out.
Teen-agers in jeans, they’re talking.
Thirteen seventeen and four seconds.
The short one, he’s lucky, he’s getting on a scooter,
but the tall one, he’s going in.
Thirteen seventeen and forty seconds.
That girl, she’s walking along with a green ribbon in her hair.
But then a bus suddenly pulls in front of her.
Thirteen eighteen.
The girl’s gone.
Was she that dumb, did she go in or not,
we’ll see when they carry them out.
Thirteen nineteen.
Somehow no one’s going in.
Another guy, fat, bald, is leaving, though.
Wait a second, looks like he’s looking for something in his pockets and
at thirteen twenty minus ten seconds
he goes back in for his crummy gloves.
Thirteen twenty exactly.
This waiting, it’s taking forever.
Any second now.
No, not yet.Yes, now.
The bomb, it explodes.
In the poem The Terrorist, He’s Watching, you are reading the thoughts of a terrorist who has planted a bomb in a bar and is looking down on the people passing by the bomb-site. The terrorist’s thoughts explain the movement of the people around, and he judges the people around the bomb-site. He describes everyone in such a careless and non-emotional way, because he knows he might kill them. The way the terrorist continuously counts down the bomb explosion is also very engaging and adds tension.
It is a good poem to look at, because it’s strongly descriptive writing, and the tense idea of the bomb ticking and how casually he describes the people that are running out of time to live, is quite an extraordinary and interesting concept of writing.
The Prologue To A Comedy (13 sentences) (2nd choice)
He made himself a glass violin so he could see what music looks like. He dragged his boat to the mountain's peak and waited for the sea to reach his level. At night, he got engrossed in railway schedules: the terminals moved him to tears. He grew rozes with a "z." He wrote one poem to cure baldness, and another on the same subject. He broke the clock at City Hall to stop the leaves from falling once for all. He plannes to excavate a city in a pot of chives. He walked with the globe chained to his leg, very slowly, smiling, happy as two times two is two. When they said he didn't exist, he couldn't die of grief, so he had to be born. He's already out there living somewhere; he blinks his little eyes and grows. Just in time! The very nick of time! Our most Gracious Lady, Our wise and Sweet Lady Machine will soon have need of a fool for her fit amusement and innocent pleasure.
The poem A Prologue To A Comedy is a very creative and strange descriptive way of writing actions that are so unrealistic and abnormal, but very positive and make it enjoyable to read.
Due to its strangeness yet its positive attitude, I am curious what other readers think and get out of this poem.
