Grab Meal Review: Tonk Yum Ban Suan - "Fried Squid with Garlic on Rice", "Miang Shrimp", and a Warning on the Green Sauce

Ordered from:
Tonk Yum Ban Suan Branch Sukhumvit 18

Price breakdown (2 items):
Fried Squid with Garlic on Rice 89 Baht
Miang Shrimp 198 Baht

Starting off with the warning. If you get the innocuous looking green sauce with any of your dishs (they provide it commonly) be aware that it is an extremely spicy sauce. I tried it, being more worried that it might have ginger in it then that it might be hot, and had to run to wash off my tongue. With the basil taste to it I suspect it might be a variety of the oft talked about Holy Basil sauce that many places provide.

Now on to the items I actually enjoyed:

The fried squid is a calamari-like item breaded without egg and with a garlicky taste to it. If you like calamari I'd recommend it, as it is of excellent quality compared to what I'm used to and absolutely worth ordering.

The shrimp miang gives (by a rough count) about 16 cooked normal pacific shrimp, which are slightly underflavoured on their own but not as much as this place's white shrimp is. For the price it's disappointing, but the taste is perfectly fine. As a miang it comes with leafy greens and all the usual suspects spoken about previously. Though, continuing a previous mystery, I continue to have no idea how I got that spicy salmon salad provided for free with one of my orders.

Speaking on value, the squid is well priced and worth ordering, while the only reason I can see for ordering the shrimp miang is if you want the leafy greens but none of the other items interest you; if that is your reasoning even then I'd recommend against it, as you get so little for the price.
