Let’s Discuss: ‘Our Rodent Selfies, Ourselves

In this article, the subject of the piece revisits something many people learn as they grow up. To be able to influence behavior, provide some sort of stimulation. Social media does that to us too, but is it different than just being Social? Consider this, life in and of itself is a gamble. Asking someone to be your friend, significant other, or even wife is a gamble. Yes, the very social people do this all the time, but it comes at a risk. The risk of rejection, it stings in the moment, but those players decide the risk is worth the comparatively small reward for social butterflies. Comparatively those with few friendships play a higher gamble, less risk averse, but when they play they have more to lose. That one connection could by a fifth or a fourth of their network. Isn’t that what social media is in a way. We all want to play, but also lower the barrier for entry. That’s where social media comes in. Stings comparatively less than an in-person interaction, but can also exacerbate the same social gamble. With pictures on social media, we can put ourselves out there, but also remember the gamble victories.
