Slept in until noon. Got up and had an orange I'd been saving from the Dublin hostel a few days ago. Decided today was the day for the ulster Scots museum.
Walked down there with a British girl and we got burger king along the way because she'd never had it. I think I got ripped off again as I'd ordered chicken fries and there were literally six sticks the size of a French fry each. I also got charged for a bottle when I'd asked for a cup of water so it ended up the same price as her full meal.
It was pouring by the time we got back out and headed to the ulster scots museum. The museum was a bit underwhelming. More text on walls. Largely devoted to all the cool things ulster Scots have done in the US. Talked to the guide for a minute and he knew a bit about the family but not a lot. Picked up a booklet on ulster Scots in Canada to read later.
Next stop, the mall. For some reason, the Belfast mall has a great view over the whole city. Probably should have done that one earlier as it helped me understand the geography better.
Went through some cool underpasses that were covered in graffiti.
Quick stop at the bookstore to look for a junji ito book which they didn't end up having.
The walk back to the hostel was less wet but still dreary.
Since it was too rainy to do much else, we crashed at the hostel and watched "the meg 2". It sucked but was kinda fun. More people pulled up and we all watched "meet cute". It was sad and I hated it.
This was my last night in Belfast so I decided to go out to play pool with the rest of the crew. I haven't mentioned this before but a lot of the people I've been hanging out with in Belfast have been staff of the hostel. This hasn't been intentional but they just seem to be the people who are the most down to do stuff. No exception tonight.
Pool was fun. I also happened to meet up with some other people I knew from galway while I was there. My first couple pool shots were horrendous - I think I missed even the cue ball on one, but I got back in the swing of things after a while.
I played a teams game against two of the hostel staff with the British girl. We were winning most of the game and had both hit some lucky shots. It got the the point where the 8 ball was all that was left for us. It was right by the pocket but the cue ball wasn't in an ideal place. I hit and it bounced between the edges of the pocket and back to where it started. Pretty sure we all screamed. This gave the other team time to pot their last ball and they finished the game on the next turn. Unbelievably disappointing but one of the most intense games of pool I've ever played.
