The Girl who Wished Books Would Grow

By Yaari. S

Tara was a baby when she entered the library at home for the first time. She was amused, and she did try helping herself by opening the books and staring at the pictures for hours. When her Papa stepped into the library that day, he was beyond shocked to see that eye-popping scene.. he realised his daughter has got a liking to books. Then from then onwards, he told her stories day and night, in fact.. every single day. When she started to grow up.. he taught her alphabets, words and sentences.. bought her books every week and at last.. she became an avid reader like her Papa. She read whenever she got time. Books were her best companion after Papa.

But that one thing Tara didn’t like about books was that, when they got tastier and delicious.. she couldn’t help herself but read and read to know what lies ahead, curiosity will eat her up until that very last page.. and then Tara would say that very statement which she did say last time also “Oh, how I wish you had more pages.. why, why can’t you just grow like Papa and me.. nobody has ever warned or stopped you from doing that.. why, why, why?”, after that she did close the book with a sigh. Tara did questioned her Papa almost daily that why couldn’t the pages of books grow. To which he did laugh, then he would pick her up, then a kiss but she never got the answer she wanted.

I say, though you and I believe that this wish of hers wouldn’t happen.. no matter what, but it simply did.. the pages literally grew!

Tara believed in the almighty with all her heart, she loved listening to the stories of god more than any story. Hence, she decided.. “As there is nothing in the world that god cannot change, I will pray to Him.. I am sure he would have my long-lost-desire fulfilled” and she prayed every single second, day & night without a break.

Then, one fine morning.. when she opened the book she had read the previous night for some unknown reason, there she saw right in front of her eyes the pages growing and growing even though she was so sure it had only 282 pages… And that I say, is the true power of prayer!

Tara with her eyes full of tears got up from bed and headed straight to her Papa and with a smile, she told “Oh papa, didn’t I sounded funny all the times I asked you why didn’t the pages of a book grew.. but now here, see to yourself.. the pages are growing!?”
