This is very interesting, I can see pros and cons for both points of view, for some people death may actually be a desire, which questions lupers idea that death thwarts all desire, but I think most people are afraid of death more because it's an unknown experience more than selfish desire lost

Couldn't someone who holds unobtainable goals, such as perfect virtue, and who really only finds meaning in progressing toward these goals still maintain indifference to death. As long as they are on their preferred path they feel no concern over their journey on that path being ended at one time rather than another.

Is it possible to create an adequately robust philosophical system from one axiom? Where did Descartes go from his realization that he exists?
