The Link Worker Manifesto

Working within homelessness reduction and prevention services job titles come and go. Its service to a community that remains constant.

Gaining the title “Link Worker,” I discovered that many people did not know the meaning. Practically it can be explained; a link worker is a support worker with an added specialism, e.g. welfare benefits, care, housing etc.

The feedback I receive continues to provide insights into the job title that has grown into a personal manifesto on how I currently serve my community.

My Manifesto provides an internal guide for every connection I make.

Daily I work to

  • meet people where they are

  • Engage with the person before the problem.

  • Pay attention to geographic and psychological environments

  • Find pathways of acceptance for self and others.

  • Convert reaction to response

  • Work with people to connect knowledge with individual truth.

  • Jointly explore extended benefit in all solutions.

  • Dissolve anxiety and remove fears.

With this broad approach to the “work”, I aim to “link” people to the necessary to improve their circumstance and maybe help them find an inherent value that was once lost. We are all more resourceful than we think.
