Day 8 - Everything is falling apart #LinuxChallenge

Tuesday, Jan 14, 2025 Goal for today was pretty simple, install DaVinci Resolve for video editing and some app for photo editing. The installation of DaVinci was pretty easy, I just had to install some missing dependencies but beside this, standart installation process. It started to fall apart during first startup when I got error about unsuported GPU. My GPU is Radeon 7900 XTX so pretty new model. I though that Linux should have AMD drivers build in according to some reddit threads from th...

Day 7 - One day delay #LinuxChallenge

Monday, Jan 13, 2025 Today I managed to complete my weekend goals. To be more precise the one regarding issues with Steam library. I was partially correct with my assuption of files being unaccessible and also partially correct with it being due to Windows. The issue was in NTFS Windows file system where Linux or Steam had issue with reading the files due to wrong weird symbols in file paths. Or that is at least according to this link from Valve. It also contains usefull step-by-step guide ...

Day 6 - Maybe not that bad #LinuxChallenge

Sunday, Jan 12, 2025 On Friday post I made 3 goals for me to do during weekend. Find a better file explorer, find a way to make a screenshot shortcut and fix my Steam library issues. During this weekend I also made some observations regarding support for virtual reality but let's discuss everything separatelly. Finding Nemo The file system is a thing that I write about constantly and personally I think it will be something that any Windows user will have the most issues with. From minor qua...

Day 4 - Just not much time #LinuxChallenge

Friday, Jan 10, 2025 Yesterday I was completly away from my PC and today I only had a small amount of time so I was not able to do much. However I was googling a bit, if I am not mistaken, my issues with disk access should be easily solvable just by installing different file explorer. I still think that this should not be an issue at all but as far as there is an easy solution I can work with it. As for the Steam library issues I am having, still nothing. I still think that there must be so...

Day 2 - I feel lost #LinuxChallenge

Wednesday 8 Jan 2025 For the second day I had two simple goals in mind. Set up Godot so I can continue working on the game I am helping with (I hope I will be able to share something soon) and make one game playable. That was something I had huge issues with yesterday. Godot setup was very easy. To be fair, the most time I spend on this was finding an app for Git. On the other hand the Steam situation took me several hours. First of all was to check if I have some driver issue, I did this ...

Day 1 - High hopes #LinuxChallenge

Tuesday 7 Jan 2025 I was always a Windows user, I know the system and what to expect from it and to be honest I really like it. However since the widespread of the large language models or "AI" as it's called now in every medium I don't feel like I want my data to be used in it's training. I already changed services I am using from Google's to Proton's, Kagi for search and now I feel like it's a good time to try Linux for an extended period of time. I choosed one month as a good enough time. ...
