day #3

Friday night. Sitting down with a hot chocolate (cacao) at 8.48pm to brain dump my day, or rather what the weekend now holds for us.

We are currently exploring the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, and are slowly making our way west towards Streaky Bay and Perlubie before we chuck a u-turn, and start heading east, back to Victoria and Melbourne where we will be picking up our new caravan at the end of the month - and by new, I mean a replacement for the caravan we are currently living in which has had countless issues, and after a lengthy process - were granted our request to have our caravan replaced.

As we speak, I'm slowly watching our batteries go down - now down to 25%, and wondering what it will be when we wake up. Another issue we've been dealing with - a faulty battery system. Considering the sun was blasting all day, we should not be in a position of almost have no batteries. But this is also part and parcel of life living in a caravan - and doing so off grid. I used to have a desire to live off grid in a home that was equipped with a large solar and battery system, but now, after living in a caravan for 16 months and constantly having to monitor power usage, I'm not so sure.

We are well set up to be off grid for lengthy periods. 250 litres of water will usually last us about 5-6 days, plus we have the ability to top up via a couple of 20L jerry cans that can buy us an extra few days. With decent sunshine, in theory we should never really run out of batteries if we are mindful of our usage. We love being off grid, the feeling of parking our home up near (or on!) the beach and having all the comforts of our little home at our finger tips is an incredible feeling. One of the absolute highlights of living this lifestyle.

Thanks for coming for the ramble - see you tomorrow.

P.S It was 37 degrees today. That's hot in a caravan (or anywhere really!)
