Grade 12 Experience Syntax Exercise

What do you think about the IBDP?

As an MYP student, I believed that I would be well-prepared for the stress of the Diploma Programme. That was not the case. For IB sections like CAS, I was prepared; subjects like English was where I was blindsided. In the MYP, we were taught to compress our sentences, make them short - only 500 words. If I did that in an IB English paper, I would probably not get a high mark. It made no sense to me; why were we being taught something for five years that we would eventually have to reverse for the final two; the same principle applies to working on a paper in opposition to the laptop. The IB itself is an extremely well-thought-out, complex programme that should allow a student to be well prepared for the future. But, for some reason, I still do not feel prepared. Theoretically, I should be a well-rounded student who is able to manage stress, multitask, be self-aware and persistent. Evidently, I have not been able to do half of these. To a certain extent, these are my fault; however, the other extent comes from me not being exposed to even half of this heavy load of work in the MYP.

Also, the idea of the DP is to push students to think for themselves and create their own opinion, yet I feel as though I am being forced to think from one perspective. The Boghossian Article showed me a new perspective on my thoughts and how I felt as if though I had to be a liberal because of what we were taught in our classes.
