🌏 I really want to say I told you so.
China does not respect the sovereignty of former Soviet nations, neither does Russia. There is no disputing the fact now. They have clearly made the statement themselves. The fact that a Chinese diplomat even felt that he could openly make such a statement and persuade European citizens to agree with that perspective, says a lot.
China wants Russia to control Crimea and the Black Sea region. It's part of their grand strategy. They may even have designs on other former Soviet territories. One great thing about President Macron's visit to China, is that he made the CCP feel comfortable enough to open up and speak their mind. No one in the EU can deny China's ambitions now. Despite the CCP's attempt to walk back the diplomat's statement, we know the truth now.
The EU foreign policy chief, HR Josep Borrell, is right - the EU needs to be firm about Taiwan. And the G7 is right to encourage de-risking as the best solution. The risks are real. The threats to our freedom and human rights are serious.
