Three Cheers for Belgium

🇧🇪 We love Belgium's idea. We have been calling for algorithms to be tested and approved by a government agency before they are allowed to go into production. The US Congress refuses to even consider it.

Physical structures, like a new skyscraper, have to go through numerous approval processes before they can open. Architectural drawings have to be approved by a structural engineer, and there are numerous inspections throughout the building process. Virtual or digital structures require similar kinds of safeguards. The only people that can inspect and approve digital structures, which are built with algorithms, are computer scientists.
