US-Serbia-Kosovo Relations

๐บ๐ธ๐ท๐ธ๐ฝ๐ฐ All former Yugoslavian territories have had a problem with ethnic conflicts, because of the previous leadership, specifically Miloลกeviฤ. Politicians from the former communist era used race, ethnicity, and religion to create deep divisions in civil society, and this has created all of the conflicts that continue to this day in the Balkans.
We are not taking sides in these conflicts. We simply want the conflicts to end. We recognize the legitimate need for Kosovo to be an independent state from Serbia, and we will continue to support Kosovo's right to self-determination. We also recognize that Serbia is still trapped in the Russian sphere of influence, and many of the decisions they make are based on their inability thus far to withdraw from that sphere of influence.
We are not certain of the fairness of the recent elections that were held in Serbia, and we are not certain about the current President of Serbia's intentions. We do not want to interfere in Serbia's democratic elections either. But we have read notes by the current Prime Minister of Serbia and leaders of the opposition that were published in Politico. From those notes it is clear that the current Prime Minister of Serbia is the most sophisticated and articulate of the two. She came across as a goal-oriented leader with a clear vision for Serbia's future. We trust her. It's hard to believe that a gay woman would support Russia or Vladimir Putin. All of her statements on the war in Ukraine have expressed solidarity with the Ukrainians. We believe that Serbia would like to withdraw from Russia's sphere of influence and that they need the USA's help to do this. Americans would like to help them accomplish those goals if this is what they truly want.
