The Border Security Bill

🇺🇸 I support Senator Sinema, Senator Lankford, and Senator Murphy's border security bill. It sounds like a very reasonable and responsible bill. The bill will not allow more than 5,000 migrants to seek asylum per day, because our immigration system can not process any more migrants than that. But as Sinema stated, the bill will permit the US administration to shut down the border as soon as the immigration system becomes overloaded, which could be at a much lower number of migrants, but requires the border to be shut down after the maximum of 5k migrants has been reached.
Those migrants that cross the border, no more than 5k, will be immediately interviewed to determine if they qualify for asylum - most of them do not. Those that do not qualify will be immediately returned to their home country. Those who do qualify will be processed within 6 months. Families will not be separated during this process. Individuals will be detained and families will be supervised once they arrive in the USA.
I think this is a very reasonable update to the current border policy. We can test this new policy and evaluate whether these changes improve the situation. I believe they will. We can always make additional changes later if necessary.
I knew Senator Sinema would negotiate a fair deal. Arizona is a border state, so this a serious issue for her state and constituents, but Senator Sinema also believes in treating all human beings with respect, including illegal immigrants. xo
