I'm a Liberal, Not a Socialist

🇺🇸 I read both presidential candidates websites. Harris is still too socialist. She watered down some of her rhetoric, but all of her former economic policy proposals are still there. It's still the same socialist agenda. Harris also chose the most socialist governor in the entire USA to be her running mate. Harris is not a centrist. I'm not about it. I'm not enthused.
Harris' start-up tax cuts for small businesses sound good on the surface, but the reality is that most small business do not make very much money the first year, if any, so those tax cuts will not help much. And they are only start-up tax cuts - they are not recurring tax cuts. Harris also intends to raise total costs for small businesses by raising the minimum wage. Raising the minimum wage hurts small businesses. Restaurants, bars, stores... etc. all employ minimum wage workers. If the minimum wage goes up, so does their operating costs.
The socialists in the Democratic Party are obsessed with raising the minimum wage. That's all they ever talk about. It's an easy way to get votes from the youth, who are the majority of minimum wage earners. Young people work these low-wage jobs. These jobs are temporary jobs. They are not intended to be lifelong careers, and that is exactly why there is no reason to raise the minimum wage. Raising the minimum wage will increase inflation - it will cause the prices to increase. This will actually reduce the purchasing power of people in the lower classes, causing them to become impoverished. Raising the minimum wage actually raises the poverty line.
So I find it really disappointing that the Democratic Party continues to be obsessed with raising the minimum wage and putting this on the political agenda. Liberals will not support it. Liberals want all low-wage jobs to be temporary, part-time jobs for the youth, not life-long careers. Liberals encourage social mobility. We encourage all individuals working in low-wage jobs to pursue more interesting career paths that offer higher paying salaries. We encourage more entrepreneurship. We encourage more access to higher education. We encourage more apprenticeships. We support investments in human capital, which means investing in Americans' education and ensuring Americans' have the necessary skills to pursue their dreams.
Unprofessional, unskilled, entry-level jobs will remain low-wage, and this encourages Americans to pursue more fulfilling careers and to reach their full potential. xo
