Frugal: Moderation, Modesty, and Mercy vs. SALAMI

Proprietary software corporations and "AI"1 (LLM SALAMI)2 marketing fraudsters prevent us from being frugal.

They are forcing us towards death since we cannot implement the virtues of mercy, moderation and modesty. With the consumption of vast environmental resources for the hi-spec computers needed to run bloated software and the data centers needed for LLM (Large Language Model SALAMI)2 the data centers', there is no mercy for localities that lose their water supplies, nor for the surrounding people who have to pay higher electricity rates. The pressure to consume and inflict the bullshit that is generated by unmaintainable, unsustainable "AI" (LLM SALAMI)2 applications forces one away from the virtue of modesty and into the realm of brightsided bullshit, certain to be fatal.

"... to forsake frugality for expansion.. is sure to end in death." -- LaoZi 67 via D.C. Lau3

" If a man wants to be.. generous without first being frugal..he is only courting death!" --- LaoZi 67 via John C.H. Wu4

SALAMI for "AI"

A more accurate term for "AI" LLMs: SALAMI.2

Artificial Intelligence is a name born in 1956. It has gained a lot of attention thanks to its resonance with humans, and favoured the devlopment of an imaginative Hollywood production stream.

... By throwing in some logic and randomness they can also exhibit some interesting and original behaviors. Yet machines have no clue of what reality is. At best, they mimic a model of the reality, so they are two steps away from reality.

... the first and foremost AI bias is its name. It induces analogies that have limited adhrence to reality and it generates infinite speculations (some of them causing excessive expectations and fears).
Because of this misconception, we proposed we should drop the usage of the term “Artificial Intelligence” and adopt a more appropriate and scoped-limited terminology for these technologies which better describe what these technologies are: Systematic Approaches to Learning Algorithms and Machine Inferences.

P.S. As this blog is an extension of note-taking software I'll probably be editing and updating many of the posts.. The hubzilla wiki approach is great for showing changes along with optional notes as if the wiki were also a version control system like git or fossil.. For this Standard Notes and Listed.to blog setup I might try to use html comments to keep a public record of previous versions of the writing.
