January 2025
Disheartened at the failing governance of our country. Disenfranchised. Much of our population is disengaged from the decision-making that affects us all. Mainstream politics is failing: our new government, elected as a negative reaction to the old, is back-tracking on radical policies promised to address the issues of our time and reverting to discredited and confused pursuits of economic growth. The void of any credible alternative is filled by populism, misinformation and false narratives that divide us. 52% of Gen Z would prefer a dictator - but dictators do not respect people's freedoms and wants. We have lost our autonomy.
Broken politics
Politicians lie, and manipulate us (MJB etc.); government lacks transparency and accountability. We fail to address perennial issues that threaten our homes and families, like the changing climate and rising inequality. Lobbyists shape laws to protect the interests of harmful industries and our mainstream parties are cowed by the media barons. Our political tribes are deeply hierarchical with power concentrated at the top, and debate is adversarial: the other side is wrong. And yet no side delivers what it has promised; no side holds the key. We fail to care for our children, we fail to look after the sick, we fail to protect our future, because we fail to work together.
Solution
Can't change the system, but we can participate in a movement that shows how it could be done.
- allegiance is to process first, policies second
- ways of collaborating to find the best policies
- standards of behaviour
- power out of hands
Other political parties are groupings around policies.
