Crikey. £1m+ of work required on the Chipping & Town Halls.

The report identified significant degradation of parts of the Town Hall as well as repairs and maintenance needed for both buildings. The estimated total costs over the 10-year period including allowing for professional fees and contingencies were Town Hall - £580k, and Chipping Hall - £450k.

Building consultants from Carter Jonas gave a presentation on their building surveys of the Town Hall and the Chipping Hall. The report identified significant degradation of parts of the Town Hall as well as repairs and maintenance needed for both buildings. The estimated total costs over the 10-year period including allowing for professional fees and contingencies were Town Hall - £580k, and Chipping Hall - £450k. Carter Jonas proposed a schedule of works based on external and internal building condition priorities and value for money in procurement of contracts over 10 years.

There followed a question-and-answer session between Councillors and the Building Surveyors on the report including on the works required, sequencing of works and contracts, the Town Council doing the procurement and management of contracts, the increase in costs, the urgency of works.
