North Nibley Parish Council Meeting - October 2024

North Nibley Parish Council Meeting

2nd October 2024

The outside of North Nibley Village Hall

It was a pleasure attending the Parish Council meeting last night along with Cllr Braun. Here are my personal notes.

One member of the public present. They were very concerned about the speed of traffic coming into the town from Dursley. Since the laurel trees have been cut back it seems to have made the problem worse. There was also concern about the speed of traffic by the school. The road is quite narrow by the church. They suggested road markings similar to Horsley where they have "School Safety Zone" painted on the surface. There was also a suggestion to reduce the speed limit of the road from Wotton to North Nibley down 40mph (currently 50mph) which would make the drop in required speed when entering the village less noticable.

The Chair reassured that traffic calming was a priority. There are a number of options that are under consideration and they've also been chatting with Hillesley Parish to share experiences.

After the normal formalities there was discussion on the progress of various activities councillors are working on using an update tracker. This is a great way to manage all the tasks and actions from previous meetings. Cllr Braun and myself gave a brief overview of the October SDC Councillors' report.

There was a lengthy report presented on the the McMurtry Automotive planning application S.24/0476/FUL. There was concern about the suitability of the road accessing the site. There is little detail on the planning portal. Cllr Braun was tasked to get more detail from the planning officer. I struggled to locate detail on any of these planning items in the backing papers or agenda on my tiny Samsung Tablet, during the meeting, and lost track of the debate. :(

More discussion about Churchyard maintenance, trees and its suitability as a location for Forest School; a number of issues were raised and talked through. This was followed by an update on the play area and then road safety issues and the suggestion of creating a survey of priorities for residents. Much debate about defibrillators, their locations and action required if activated. The Winter Plan was also mentioned and decided it needs revision.

As always the number of activities going on, brisk chairing and general buzz was great to observe.

The meeting concluded soon after 9:30pm
