Rumours of Geckos at Potters Pond confirmed

Great news. Plans have finally been produced for the installation of electric vehicle charge-points in Potters Pond car park, Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire. There maybe some minor disruption at the beginning of March when they will be installed.

These chargers have been a long time coming. It was originally hoped that the Geckos could have been installed in the Chipping Car Park. However, due to various factors locating them, including proximity to trees, electricity sources and trenching costs the idea was eventually shelved in favour of Potters Pond (a less ideal location).

Site location plan

The Gecko Smart Charger is designed for use in long stay carparks where space is at a premium and offer minimal visual impact. They are manufactured from recycled components and highly durable.

Although the rated charge speed is 3.2kW‐22kW, with ability to load balance across chargers in series, the ones installed at Potters Pond will be capped at 7kW due to the available power.

Here's the original report produced back in March 2023.

Stroud District Council have committed £196k to install 26 charging bays in seven car parks across Stroud District. Fifty percent of the installation costs will be funded by central government, via the On Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme.
