Wotton Town Council - June 2026

Wotton Town Council Meeting

22nd June 2026

Wotton-under-Edge Civic Centre

My informal notes from the Town Council meeting last Monday. It was due to be a long meeting with a full agenda.

Normal formalities, quite a few apologies for absence, previous minutes approved.

Simon from WCSF (the Wotton Community Sports Foundation) gave a progress report presentation. Their primary focus right now is the pavilion structure - a new social space with toilets. They'll finally be rid of porta-cabins. Planning permission should be secured in July. Quotations from various builders. It will be a modular build with quick construction. Vision for a base for activities, a bookable venue. It will be busy on weekends and fairly well occupied now. Over the next three years they'll be considering the replacement of all-weather and 3G pitches. They've been amassing a sinking fund. Sept–May is the busy period. Little activity in the summer. Lots of questions from councillors. Popular but seems to lack connection to the town. Need to work on comms.

Wotton Lions put in a grant request for towards the Over Edge Event cycle event in September. There are three ways to sponsor, if willing: Bronze, Silver, or Gold. Discussed a similar request a couple of months ago. Significant support in town. Cllr thinks it's good PR for TC logo on banners and others agree. Opted for Gold sponsorship. But want logo on banner, which is maybe £50 extra.

Catherine and I received a few questions on the SDC councillors' report. The report was shorter than usual as it was just the SDC AGM in May.

Meeting then moved on to the annual governance and accounting return and noted that Yasmin and Hannah had produced a good report. Clerk asked if Cllrs were clear about the PWLB loan for the Town Hall.

The meeting went on to cover the internal audit in great detail. Catherine and I left the meeting at this point for a catch-up on other SDC casework.

As always, if you have any questions or just want a chat, I'm easily contactable - phone numbers and email on my home page. Use my contact info if you spot errors or if I've got something completely wrong!

I'm not using Facebook much anymore, but feel free to link and share these reports using whatever social media you fancy.
