Kratom and Tramadol Combination Interactions

Kratom is a tree with alkaloids that are used to reduce pain and enhance physical performance. It has opioid-like effects and is commonly used for withdrawal symptoms. Other products sold as ketum in Sweden and Germany contained caffeine, which has been associated with liver damage.

Combined use of kratom and tramadol may slow down the metabolism of both drugs in the liver, resulting in increased risk of liver damage and fatal overdose. Combining these two medications can cause a variety of life-threatening side effects, including heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure. There have been several reports of fatal overdose with kratom and tramadol. Researchers have concluded that a person should not consume a combination of these medications, and should seek medical attention if they experience symptoms of overdose, such as agitation, dizziness, tremors, and vomiting. A CDC report on kratom overdoses compiled data from State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting Systems. It reported that 1,807 calls were received regarding kratom exposure.
