#31 Set a day to pamper yourself

Every month I spend a day or two just for myself. That day is not about my family or friends. It is about me. I drive down to my favorite restaurant, get my order to go, park my car on a random street, listen to my favorite music and eat in my car. Or I sit at a less crowded cafe and write for a whole day.

Before I had my car, I used to go to Anna Nagar tower park on my bike or using public transport, spend time reading under a tree and then sleep a little.

It was a change from my routine. I loved spending time with myself. It cleared the mind, recharged the spirit, and gave me the energy to get back at the mundane things.

But, people are a little hesitant (and even afraid) when I ask them to spend some time alone. They hate doing things alone - like going to the movies, eating at a restaurant, or going for a trip. They think “what would others think of me!”

Loving your company is much needed in today’s world. Everything we know has changed. The line between work and life vanished. Working from home has become overwhelming. When we work from home, we’re not just working from home, but also working for your home (which can be exhausting, especially to working women).

The pandemic stole all the personal time we had for ourselves. It is the need of the house to get in touch with our inner self.

I strongly believe that one should take care of themselves before taking care of others.

We’re often so busy caring about work, family, romantic relationships and so on, we miss taking care of ourselves.

Once everything clears, get yourself out there and have a day for yourself. Treat yourself to a favorite meal. Get a massage. Watch a movie. Book a hotel room and jump into the hot tub. Do anything. I guess after everything we’ve been through, we deserve some pampering.
