GRIEF

For some grief runs hot
A fury pouring out
Raging teeming from every pore
Cascading, burning everyone
And everything in it path
Until there is nothing left
But ashes
For some it is as cold as ice
Burning of a different kind
Freezing the world in place
Stark, glacial stillness
A frozen lake, the raging tide underneath
With nowhere to go
Until the thaw
For others a padded room
Muffling the sounds of life
The numbing, the nothingness
The comfort of unknowing
A pause button
In the soundtrack of life
Until the volume returns
Grief is a shadow
A comfort blanket for pain
Your landscape forever changed
Forged in sorrow and tears
Redrawn by loss
Scars a measure of love
And the hollow space left behind
