Someone wanted to know what time I normally go to sleep, and was surprised on it to be well after eleven PM. "Why so late?" was the next, and I had to explain never in my life since the college days have done it earlier to that, for the simple reason of turning off the radio when the day's broadcast ended at eleven. We were all hooked to the last hour of old songs that provided a ready topic for the next day.
Of course, the habit of listening to radio is almost gone, taken over by ebooks or watching videos, but not the hour to end the day. I do try to revive the old fad once a while since discovering the late night program still continues. It has its own charms with a bit of commentary by the announcer on things related to the song or its synopsis that makes it interesting than just the mechanical listening to a ready Playlist on the Internet radio. May be something like mother's cooking that has love and involvement for the family than getting it ordered online.
Though we can now listen to whatever and whenever on the phone or computer or view it on the TV, radio has its own charm. Obviously the topic for the day, mix of old & new, composers & singers, and the element of surprise on what comes next than knowing it beforehand is what adds to the charm, appealing to all, an involved listening to than just being tuned in...
