The Munchkin Gang steal a scooter

While conducting routine casework, I glanced off to my left most screen and spotted what looked to be two juveniles hanging out by the bike racks of a dorm building. Finding them out of place at a university campus, I began to inspect the camera further and further zoomed into the munchkins to begin tracking and relaying information to the campus police. Both juveniles are male and looked to be around the age of 10 years, while the older one looked to be heavy set.

While attempting (and failing) to cut the locks off of a studentโ€™s scooter, I was relaying information to campus police about their current location, description, and actions. The heavier set young man was seen multiple times taking a pair of pliers, while the younger lad was trying to pry the lock off. As police were approaching, they noticed and attempted to flee on the scooter they had already stolen from another area but had gotten stuck in the ditch. Police and the building security officer both arrived in time and detained them on scene. I notified the police officer on scene to check their pockets for a pair of pliers, did not find anything on the heavier set lad. Instead, he had given it to his younger brother instead to take the fall for it. After taking inventory of all items the boys had on them, they were taken to the station and placed into a holding cell.

Several hours after the incident, the boyโ€™s mother and sister showed up to collect the munchkins. Both females were visibly upset, and the mother had yelled at them for their actions. They were let go into the motherโ€™s custody, and that was that.

Had I not looked up from my report, I would have missed this incident that was taking place in front of me. This theft would have been another one on the pile, so I felt major pride and satisfaction from having their mother come pick them up. But the upsetting truth of the matter is, numerous people had walked by the two, who obviously did not look old enough to be students; let alone left unsupervised. So, if you see something, say something. Be the person that saves other people from the humiliation and the lost cost of having their property stolen.
