I saw Heavy Lifting's mailing list (https://buttondown.email/heavy-lifting/archive/) and it inspired me to start a blog. I've always been quite hesitant to write things online -- I kind of only recently started posting actual tweets about stuff I thought rather than just retweeting (though of course I'm now on Mastodon mostly !) -- but I think it might be time... Mostly it will just be about what I've been up to I guess.
Recently a lot of things have changed. The main thing is that I moved to Sheffield and I've been having the nicest time ever. I've been studying a Masters in Social Research, doing courses in Python, and also starting my PhD; all of this is part of a 'CDT' programme. I feel so lucky to be taught things in this environment again, and I'm working with some people who are unbelievably inspiring.
I've also played a lot of gigs in the past couple of months, in London, Sheffield and Cardiff -- after this weekend I'll have played six in less than two months! It's been really nice and it's really lovely to be asked, but I am also thinking that I don't have much time to 'develop my practice' when I've got so much on. However, I have been able to develop the music I've been working on quite a bit while playing these shows. It's quite nice to expand it by trying things within a live environment and getting immediate feedback from people. The show at DINA in Sheffield was really amazing, I had a great time playing it and it felt really cool to move to a new place and play something. I made some friends there which was nice. Everyone in Sheffield has been really lovely to me.
