7. About the missing storage

Ah... German apartments, so much can be said about them. This time, let's talk about how empty they are.
Sure, we mentioned the kitchen, well, the remarkable absence of it, the absence of lamp socket and bulb, and often no space for the washing machine.
From what I have seen, fitted closets or storage is a concept that has not arrived in Germany yet. Perhaps too modern or convenient or esthetically too beautiful.
Whatever the reasons, I do not care actually, the result is that there is not even storage under the sink in the bathroom.

In Germany, when renting a non-furnished apartment, it is wise to precise that it always comes with toilets, shower cabin and or bathtub and a sink in the bathroom.
And there you have it, that's it, that is the list of all the equipment in a German flat.
Usually there is the absolutely useless towel warmer that takes up the absolutely necessary only place where you could possible put a storage unit for your cosmetics/soaps/everything that is used when in a bathroom.

In my bathroom, and in many other I saw, there is no storage under the sink, just the sink only and no storage behind the mirror (if there is one) and there is no other space where I can install a small shelf so needless to say that it is very very far from being made to be used by a human. Of course, in my shower cabin, there is no shelf for washing essentials so I had to buy an ugly hanging shelf at Jysk.

In the other rooms, bedroom, coridor, living room, well, all the other rooms, there are just walls.
We should be thankful that there is floor (unlike apartments in the Netherlands), switches, sockets, and windows and inner walls.
When you move in from abroad in Germany, be prepare to spend a very large amount of money for tasteless / tacky / bad quality furniture that you have to buy at an excessive high price at Ikea, Seggmüller, XXXXXXXXXLutz or Jysk.

In France, North America or East Asia where I lived as a "local" (meaning not like an expatriate where my company pays for everything), all the apartments I lived in came with closets in bedrooms and storage in the bathroom.
Of course, all of them had a fully equiped kitchen and a dedicated space in the apartment for a washing machine and lights were already installed.
