Greetings, and welcome to URC Polity!
If you are reading this, you are new here--and that makes two of us! The purpose of this short post will be to describe some of the current dreams and goals of this blog (which are still a work in progress!), including the general scope and some initial assumptions.
First, the dream of this blog is to help church members become more aware of and enthusiastic about the history and polity of the URCNA. Some posts will be reflections or summaries of historical documents, and some will provide thoughtful analysis of more current documents in our federation, such as a recent study committee report. Occasionally, posts may include federational news and updates. If there are certain articles, books, etc. that a post is referencing, we will do our best to provide links to them so you can follow along.
Second, while this blog is predominantly geared towards the history and polity of the Continental (or, "Dutch") Reformed tradition, we also welcome our Presbyterian brothers and sisters! Some posts may feature events in which our two traditions overlap or otherwise come into contact, such as the Trinity Psalter Hymnal. We look forward to sharing more ideas with you in the future.
Lastly, this blog assumes that you are a member (or officer) of a Reformed church, but if you are not, that's okay! If going to church for the first time, or visiting a Reformed church is something that interests you, please feel free to reach out by email--we would be thrilled to help you find a local church in your area.
That's all for now, folks. If you've enjoyed this post, please consider subscribing or signing our guest book on the home page. Your support and encouragement is appreciated!
