I’ve gotten too many of them

I've been into a hobby of retro gaming on handhelds on and off for quite some time now if counting from the very first device. I bought my first emulation handheld 14 years ago-a JXD S601 (not in the photo; I broke it accidentally many years ago). Then I got a GPD XD in 2015 and somehow managed without buying more until 2024. In 2024 I got an RGB30, and something clicked, and the collection started growing rapidly; I'm sure some of you know what I mean.

Now, 15 devices later, it's time to clear the shelf and sell or gift most of them, but before gifting some to friends and selling others I decided to take a "family photo" and share it here with comments about which ones I am going to keep. Perhaps it can help someone decide whether they should buy device A if they already have device B, so they don't end up in a situation like mine.

What I am keeping

1. Steam Deck OLED. It's my favorite gaming device of all time: beautiful screen, nice controls, just enough power for my sofa sessions. It would be the ultimate machine for me if it was a bit lighter and had 120 Hz (I know about overclocking the screen, but I don't want to degrade the color saturation with the overclock).
2. Analogue Pocket. The FPGA is unbeatable. Also, it plays my cartridges (though most of the time I play ROMs on it to keep saves on the SD card).
3. TrimUI Brick - my little companion. I keep it in my pocket whenever I leave home, and I love the D-pad and face buttons.
4. Nintendo Switch. It was a farewell gift from my ex-colleagues in 2018; it has an engraving with some kind words on the back. I am keeping it purely for the sentiment.
5. Retroid Pocket Mini v2. It is my most-played dedicated retro handheld (still less played than Steam Decks, though). I love the size and the screen. It's been with me all over the world on business trips and vacations. Having four to six flights a month from 3 to 17 hours each? The Mini v2 will have your back!
6. Anbernic RG ARC-S. I am a Sega kid. It explains everything about why I keep it. I had a post about ARC-S vs RPC if you are curious. Long story short: if I have both ARC-S and RPC, I pick up RPC over ARC-S 95% of the time. But there are things, like fighting games, where ARC-S is still better. And while I want to have less devices, I just cannot fully replace the ARC-S with anything else. Its D-pad is so good.

What I am selling or gifting or recycling

1. GPD XD - straight to the recycling. In the past 10 years, I've replaced the screen, ribbon cables, and some buttons on it. It's very worn overall. Plus, the latest Android ROM you can get on it through a paid Patreon subscription is Android 9. Without paying for it, it's Android 4, where modern emulators simply don't work. Nothing lasts forever, so I decided to let mine go while it can still be recycled in a safe way (without a battery exploding at home or some other nasty things that sometimes happen to old devices). It's the only device I recycle. The rest will be gifted to friends, co-workers and sold.
2. RG 35XXSP and RG 34XXSP. I guess I am not a die-hard for clamshell. Other than being a clamshell, the devices from the above can do everything that these two can.
3. Retroid Pocket Flip 2. It is my biggest disappointment and the only purchase I regret. I haven't played it much since I bought it because the ergonomics don't fit - it just hurts my hands.
4. Retroid Pocket Classic. See above about ARC-S. Hard to justify keeping the RPC if I have a goal to reduce amount of devices and keep the Mini v2 and the ARC-S.
5. Miyoo Mini+. I don't need it because I have the Brick.
6. Anbernic RG Cube XX. I don't need it if I keep the Mini v2.

And I haven't made my mind about

1. Steam Deck LCD. Until recently I used it docked as a TV box in the living room. Last week I got a Steam Machine. I might still keep the LCD Deck because it's a PC and figure out later if I want to make a home server from it (I already have a home server and NAS, though, lol).
2. Powkiddy RGB30. I might keep it as a PICO-8–dedicated machine, a dual-stick RK3566 machine, and a nice yellow rectangle. ArkOS is basically Ubuntu. It's very convenient to push stuff from my Linux desktop to the RGB30 with rsync+ssh if, for example, I develop a PICO-8 game.

P.S. I will offer handhelds to friends, co-workers, and people in my circles first, and if anything is left, it will go to the local flea market in the area where I live. Please don't reach out to me with offers to buy. I won't deal directly with strangers on the internet, nor will I organize shipping overseas.
