Reading the Bible Together in 2024

A few of us from Richland Church have been thinking about a plan to read the Bible together in 2024. The one we've settle on is the Five Day Bible Reading Plan from https://www.fivedaybiblereading.com/. You may already have a plan in place for your own regular Bible reading, which is excellent! Go for it! But if not, we'd love for you to join us in reading through the the Bible together next year.

Below are some resources and reflections on why reading the Bible is important, why reading together with others is beneficial, and how to get started with this Bible reading plan.

Why should I read the Bible?

Here are some quotes from an interview with John Piper

  • "I believe that God has established that ongoing reception of the word of God, day by day, is the ordinary means by which we fellowship with him through the Spirit in Christ."
  • "...the evidence of your new birth will be shown by your ongoing feeding on the word of God, which works in you all the kinds of things that keep you on the narrow road that leads to life and final salvation."

Why should we read and talk about the Bible together as a church?

  • "One of the reasons why the church is ailing...sickly and unable to fend off disease is that we are not 'eating' right. We are not in the word." - Doug Wilson
  • "If at all possible, read through the Bible...together with other people. The fruit of reading through the Bible together as a church over the last couple years has been immense." - Stephen Witmer
