The End ?

Sam opened her eyes and wiped the drool from her cheek. Pulling back from new favorite resting place, she wiped the drool from new Steven's chest. Today is her last day of work and she wanted to get in early so she could leave early. Feeling a bit guilty leaving with so much that still needs to be done. Her replacement is perfectly capable of finishing it, but that didn't alleviate the gut wrenching feeling that she didn't want to leave Steven in a lurch. Or, maybe the feeling was the fact Steven was out of town and she won't get to say goodbye.

Sam loved walking off the elevator being the first to set off the motion lights. It's so quiet this early, an hour before anyone else shows up. She's been in the habit of coming in early for the past month. Her routine was to order Steven's breakfast, make sure all the documents he'd need for his meetings that day were set up in order on the right side of his desk slightly staggered so each file is easily identifiable.

After the files were gathered for his meeting tomorrow she entered his office, the only room to not have automatic lights. At first it really bothered Sam with arms full she'd have to fumble for the light switch which was not by the door, but by the desk. 'What a bad design' she'd think to herself. There was enough light floating up from the city below and wafting in from the open office door that she got used to doing what needed to be done without turning the lights on. Plus, Steven kept everything in its place. He never left for the evening without organizing his desk so it was fresh for the next day. Walking toward the desk Sam stumbled on the corner of the coffee table. She must not be over far enough, but she's never done that before. Making it to the desk she starts laying out the files when the room gets significantly darker. Looking up she sees the office door shut, that never closes on its own. The hair on the back of her neck started to prickle. Something wasn't right. Trying to shake it off she looked back down and the files and continued to stagger them when she heard a voice.

"I don't want to hurt you, but I will if you don't give me what I need."

Sam froze and looked around the room with her eyes.

"Steven, is that you?" her voice was stern. "This isn't funny." Slowly her hand searches for the light switch.

"I'm not Steven," the heavy smoker voice said. "I'll be out of here as soon as you help me locate a document. I need the Night Owl file."

Sam was confused, she'd never heard of the Night Owl file. "How did you get in here?" trying to buy herself some time nervous she'd upset him if she confessed she had no idea what he was talking about. Her hand slowly moving across the desk toward the south wall where the ill placed light switch hides between two book cases.

"I need you to stop moving or this is going to get ugly for you."

She froze again. What exactly does "ugly" mean? Only a couple feet from the light switch she made a dash for the book cases. She flipped the switch with one hand and grabbed a glass obelisk award Steven received last year for Business Man of the Year with the other. She'd teased him about his phallic award that said, "yep you the man, but only this year." She loved trying to bring him down from King St. George stature. She loved it even more when his eyes showed her he was really more of a Prince Charming.

She turned to defend herself and see who was in the office. Not totally convince someone wasn't playing a prank on her for her last day of work. Doug from accounting would love to make her last day memorable. He didn't care for Sam and couldn't wait for her to be gone. When she'd first started working at Foresight Doug asked her out and she told him the same thing she tells everyone who asks her out, "I don't date coworkers". Offended by the rejection he turned into quite the tool every time they were in the same room together.

Realizing she's never seen this man with a scar over his left eye panic set in. He lunged for her so fast all she had time to do was raise the obelisk over her head before he grabbed her and hit her over the head. She crumpled to the floor.
