"Black lives matter"
- A sentence, ending in a verb
"Black lives matters"
- Grammatical confusion, the distinction between singular and plural verbs, already shaky, has finally collapsed or
- "Black lives" is singular, a unitary object or
- "Matters" is not a verb but a plural noun - the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Department of Black Lives Matters
I first noticed the extraneous S in the 'carrd' that was linked to incessantly around May and June 2020 - blacklivesmatters.carrd.co
. It strikes me as a variation born of necessity - I imagine blacklivesmatter.carrd.co
was already taken.
