Aid

Whatever noise the Johnsonists make about aid, remember that the aid cut to the UNFPA is likely to kill a quarter of a million women and children. The aid to the UNFPA has been cut from about £154 million to about £23 million, yielding a cost per life saved of £524.
UK annual GDP is about £2 trillion (source: ONS), so the total cut in aid from 0.7% to 0.5% of GDP will be about 0.2% of that, or £4 billion. If the cost per life saved is about the same as this, then the cut will kill about 7.5 million people altogether.
So this is what we're talking about here: the Johnsonists are proposing cuts to aid which will kill a number of people which is about equivalent to 10% of the UK's population: between five and ten million people will probably die because of this cut.
And this is for a tiny saving. The UK government has directly spent £172 billion on CV19 and probably has actually spent £372 billion on it (source: NAO). So this saving is between 1% and 2.3% of the amount they have spent on CV19.
