Isolation

Sajid Javid has CV19, despite having had both his vaccinations. Perhaps because the AstraZeneca vaccine is not very effective against some variants, and in particular it's probably not effective enough to get R below 1 even if everyone is vaccinated1.
And of course Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak have been notified by the NHS app that they should self-isolate, since they've been in meetings with him (obviously they don't use Zoom like everyone else in the world).
But they're not going to self-isolate. Because they are taking part in a 'pilot programme' which allows them not to do so. I imagine that 'pilot programme' didn't exist yesterday, and has, currently, exactly two people in it. Perhaps its description is the 'pilot programme for entitled fucks who need not self-isolate because they're entitled fucks'2?
And so more people will follow their example and ignore the warnings, and more people will die: just some more bodies to add to the mound of corpses killed by incompetent entitled fucks.
(And now, of course, they are going to self-isolate after all: I suppose someone pointed out to them that even they could not get away with this. That they even tried tells you everything you need to know about them, I think: they're entitled fucks who are too stupid to realise that behaving like an entitled fuck might make people realise just what they are.)

If a vaccine has an effectiveness of h (h being a number between 0 and 1), then R will be below 1 if R0 is below 1/(1 - h). The AstraZeneca vaccine seems to be about 60% effrective against the δ variant, which means R0 would need to be below 2.5, if everyone has this much immunity. Since no children are vaccinated, R0 would in fact need to be lower. ↩

Michael Gove, another entitled fuck, took part in a similar programme. ↩
