The slow death of democracy in the UK

Although it is wrong to compare the Johnsonites and the state of the UK today with, for instance Russia under Putin, Hungary under Orban, or even the US under Trump, I think it's now very clear that this is almost certainly the early stages of the slide of the UK into a corrupt autocracy with the end point being something like Russia. The UK under Johnsonites is not like Russia under Putin, yet: but unless they are stopped it will be.
Mechanisms which might place bounds on the power of the government are being systematically dismantled, moves are happening to make meaningful protest against the government illegal, and to suppress voting. Media organisations which might hold them to account are being destroyed (the BBC) and/or sold off (Channel 4), and will, almost inevitably, end up in the hands of oligarchs who will use their hollowed-out remains to support the corrupt regime which allows them to become vastly rich. Corruption is now normal in the UK government. Lying is pervasive.
We are sitting idly by while democracy in the UK dies.
