In the early 1930s German politicians thought they could strike a bargain with the nazis. That didn't turn out too well. In 2019 tory politicians thought they could strike a bargain with Johnson. That didn't turn out too well.

Johnson is not Hitler: Hitler had beliefs – extremely unpleasant ones, but he did have beliefs – while Johnson is simply a Johnson-maximising machine. Hitler hated the Jews: Johnson will hate the Jews if doing so will make more Johnson.
