Dropping the Reader Into the Story

The Man

The drop in method I used in my story was a combination of starting right at a dramatic moment as well as starting with a key conversation.

SKRRRTTT! A van comes drifting into the abandoned warehouse and comes to a halt at the feet of David and Albert. David was extremely anxious. Underprepared for what was to come. This was his first hand off and he had no idea what to expect.

“What do you think we should do?” Questioned David.

“Is it too late to back out?” Asked Albert.

Both of them were in over their heads. They had no experience in this field. They had never conducted shady business before.

“You got the cash?” Questioned a strange voice from inside the van.

“Let me do the talking.” David whispered to Albert.

“Yes, you got the code?”

“Show me the cash first and then we’ll talk.”

David and Albert sensed something was wrong the second this mysterious figure said this. He stepped out of the car. In front of David and Albert stood a Tall, Muscular figure wearing a leather jacket and distressed jeans. His face covered with a black face mask covering his face. Albert hands the mystery man briefcase full of cash. The man opens it to witness stacks of cash put onto each other. The man takes a stack and brings it near his ear. PHHHRRRTT! The cash rustles through his ear with the sound of wealth and riches beyond any mans wildest dreams.

“The code?” David asks timidly.

“1-0-1-9-2-4, If you don’t mind me asking, how do you plan on using this information?”

“That’s classified.”
“Very well, I will have no choice bu to inform the cops, unless you tell me right now.”

David and Alert were cornered. Threatened. With no choice they unveiled their plan of hacking a top secret military computer. David and Albert freeze when they see something that sends shivers down their spines. A reflection off of something strapped to the mans belt. It seems to be some sort of badge.

“NYPD, Freeze!” The man turns out to be a law enforcer.

“We’ve been setup!” Screams Albert.

The man handcuffs, both David and Albert to a poll. What happens next to these young men, only time will tell…
