Film Review: MaXXXine

MaXXXine is a dogshit script wrapped up in a trench coat of poorly executed scenes and edited sequences from various film genres. It's as if Ti West pulled genres out of a hat to emulate, and there is a titanic gulf between what he accomplished and what would be considered an acceptable homage. The only cohesion behind them was pushing forward a story whose conclusion is stupid and ridiculous.

The single emotion this film stirred in me was one of deep sympathy for Bacon, Cannavale, Debicki, Esposito, and Monaghan, who, despite their noble attempts, could not elevate the trite, ham-fisted dialogue.

Mia Goth was fine, but she did not have an ounce of the opportunity she had in Pearl to show what she is capable of.

This film is an insult to the audience who deserve an at least coherent resolution to this trilogy.
