Crafting In December

Enjoying Laurel’s singing while finishing the green‑cat figure I’d crafted. Today was a bit of a downer, and I’m still coughing from a nasty cold, but I’m trying to take it easy. Writing with a gold pen on inexpensive yet nicely weighted paper felt surprisingly satisfying. The computer is running smoothly, too.
I plan to lay low for the next month or so. One friend wants to meet up after the holidays. The green‑cat figure looks cozy despite its sad expression, and the arms are a little crooked—I hastily sewed them on. Still, I could easily make another one. This is my first figure, and it’s the most detailed pattern I’ve ever done.
Listening to the Moby‑Dick audiobook fills me with wonder about whale hunting and Melville’s rich language. My Lomography camera should arrive next week; it was an okay deal, and time will tell how it works out.
The highlight of the day was writing with gold and blue ink in my hard‑bound, pocket‑size notebook. It isn’t the grandest vessel for lofty thoughts, but it’s perfect for jotting down whatever flies through my mind right now. I’m currently listening to Julia & Angus Stone—music that always stirs up my spirits.
Back in another era, I’d keep music CDs handy for company on dark winter afternoons. It’s funny how my mistakes ended up creating this homely yarn cat. My brain isn’t wired for perfection, and that’s okay—I’ve never been a perfectionist. I just enjoy the process and the little joys along the way.
