User Experience
I purchased an open-box Instax Pal digital camera at a great price and I’m having a lot of fun with it. Given the "cute" graphics and the sense of animism in its design, it seems marketed toward a younger or more feminine demographic—especially when compared to the more utilitarian specs and design of a Kodak camera.
However, as someone who has invested in the Instax Mini LiPlay and the Lomography Lomo’Instant Automat, I find the Pal to be a great addition. While I haven't yet printed directly from the Pal or fully explored the software, the aesthetic reminds me of my experience owning several aibo robotic dogs; the "adorable" decor of the Pal feels very much in line with that kind of companion-tech design.
Functionality & Street Photography
The Pal is excellent for documenting people. In some ways, it is actually easier to use for candid shots than an iPhone because its size allows you to "shoot from the hip" effortlessly. One drawback for street photography, however, is the lack of a "stealth mode." When you trigger a photo, the camera uses flashing lights, making it quite noticeable when in use.
