Monster Process and I like it
Lately, I’ve found that my writing process tends to get away from me, especially since it still heavily involves handwriting. In the distant past, I was content to simply fill notebook after notebook with my "scratches and lines," but today, the goal is a permanent digital record. The bottleneck of transitioning from ink to digital format has become my primary obstacle.
My current process is undeniably cumbersome. I write with liquid ink on paper, then snap images of the pages using a scanning app to assemble a PDF. I upload that PDF to an AI tool with the command string "transcribe, correct, and paragraph" to generate the raw text. From there, I manually edit the digital file on my Android tablet before uploading it to the Apple Pages web app via iCloud. Finally, I open that document on my iPhone, export the text, and paste it into the Apple Journal app, which now houses over 170,000 words.
It is a disjointed journey: moving from analog to digital, bouncing between AI and Android environments, then migrating from Android to Pages, and finally into Journal. While the process is inefficient, I truly value the Apple Journal interface, so that remains the final destination for the foreseeable future.
