A Brethren Answer to Abortion Intro

Abortion is a hot issue in our culture today. On one side of the aisle there is the pro-life camp that wants all babies in the womb of the mother, to be saved and have their life protected. On the other side, there is the pro-death group that wants the right to kill the unborn child up to and including moments AFTER birth. This blog, of course, is not meant, nor will it ever attempt to solve this argument and debate, but instead to present how we as Brethren approach this topic.

Brethren hold to the sanctity of life. This, of course, has caused many Brethren to be against the death penalty, which will be another topic of another post. Brethren hold to the sanctity of life up from conception to birth. There are, in the pro-life camp, many different views including acceptance of abortion up to 15 weeks. Brethren specifically, and Christians generally, should reject this as well. The reason? Life is life, whether it is 15 weeks or 15 seconds. It is almost a betrayal to the Pro-Life community to hold to this type of view. Why are Brethren pro-life? There are several reasons.

First is due to our recognition of the Biblical position on life. The Bible talks about the unborn and in each case the Bible points the uniqueness and how special an unborn baby is. The Bible talks about how unique the baby is, how special it is for the baby to be formed in the mother's womb, and how each individual is fearfully and wonderfully made. As Brethren, we recognize God's handiwork in forming and making the child and we cherish that in all its beauty.

Second, each time the Bible talks about babies being hurt or killed, it NEVER presents it as good, fine, or a fair choice. Each time, the individual who does the killing is always shown to be evil. Think of Herod himself who had all the babies killed when he was trying to kill Jesus. There are so many other examples, but often truth is ignored and facts suspended for the sake of feelings, which are very subjective. Still, to answer the challenge, we will delve into five areas of arguments, and then, Biblically, debunk these arguments.

In a final note, there are many organizations that have done amazing work in all fields of study and research to help present and confirm the truth of a baby growing in the womb. It would be advised to really delve deep into those organizations to get more information, but this blog will hopefully help facilitate that study and answer our position on abortion from a Biblical world view. It is asked, however, in the upcoming posts, that you are willing to listen, study, and read what is being said.

On the outset, the point of the posts are not to heap guilt, condemnation, and attack on anyone who has already had an abortion. That will be addressed at the conclusion, so please hang on till then. It is, important, to state that if this is you, you have the prayer of millions of Christians behind you. Asking God to forgive you, and crying out that someone will be able to come along side you to walk with you and care for you. What is needed in this situation is love, patience, and mercy. Yes, there is the guilt, the sin of the abortion, but that is done. Jesus is here now, calling for you to come to Him for forgiveness. He loves you, even if you had an abortion, you will not be turned away. True Brethren will not refuse you mercy, or cast you out. You will find love, hope, and comfort. Yes, you will find the truth that can smart, but our desire is to help you and be there with you, leading you to find healing with Jesus Christ. The question you must ask yourself though is whether you are willing to repent and confess your sin? That is the start.

May God be with you and walk with your thoughts and heart as we go through the next few weeks.
